On Monday, November 10, 2014, the Center hosted a veterans open house which gave students access to veteran support agencies. e following day consisted of a Veterans Day Observance that included a motorcycle Ride of Dignity and speaker Army Colonel Alexander Conyers. Located next to the Observance, a "eld of honor" consisting of approximately 200 ags was arranged. Each ag was purchased through a $2 donation, with all proceeds going to future veteran scholarships.2014 – 2015 Annual Report 9 » CAMPUS EVENTS « Dreams of Dresses Sew-a-Thon FTCC's Global Education Committee conducted a Sew-a-on Fundraiser to make pillowcase dresses for children of the indigenous Boruca tribe of Costa Rica. Why pillowcase dresses± Many children in the tribe live in very poor circumstances, making them targets for human traªckers. A well-dressed girl is assumed to be cared for and protected by adult guardians, so the dresses help to keep them safe. e Global Education Committee collected pillowcase donations and set up sewing machines in the Horace Sisk building for two days to make the dresses. Freeze Out Hunger 5K and Food Drive FTCC's Rho Beta Chapter, Sigma Kappa Delta, English Honor Society organized the rst Freeze Out Hunger 5K on January 17, 2015. Despite the chilly weather, the event brought a total of 72 participants to run the 5K course through FTCC's campus. In addition, the food drive raised 432 pounds of food and other items for Second Harvest, amounting to $720.44 in donations. is event was made possible thanks to event sponsors: e Spa Fitness and Wellness Center, Dell Army, Omni Health & Fitness, FTCC security, the Fayetteville Police Department, Evolution Ink Tattoo Fayetteville NC, Cumberland Coee Roasters, Legion Nails and Spa, and a handful of private donors. Chinese Acrobats Perform at FTCC A talented group of Chinese Acrobats showcased amazing skills in foot juggling, contortions, and plate spinning for a fascinated crowd of FTCC students, faculty and sta. Of the graduates available for employment, 91.3% were working within six months of graduation, with an average salary of $37 , 760. Angela demonstrated her knowledge and abilities in preparing and implementing learning activities, understanding developmentally appropriate practices, writing lesson plans, eective teaching strategies, and understanding learning characteristics of children. Recognition for Phi Theta Kappa Members of Alpha Tau Phi, FTCC's Phi eta Kappa Honor Society, were recognized for achieving ve-star status during the 2014–2015 school year. In order to reach this pinnacle, members participated in several award-winning community events such as a pet supplies drive to benet animals at a local shelter and educating local elementary students on the ecological importance of North Carolinas state tree.2014 – 2015 Annual Report 13 » STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS « 2014–2015 President's Award Each year, the FTCC Foundation presents this award to a deserving full-time student. Maria Lynn Jackson met the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement for 2014 – 2015, and she also exhibited and promoted good student morale and demonstrated a genuine concern for FTCC and its role in the community. 2014–2015 Academic Excellence Award e North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) recognizes one student from each of the ¶y-eight colleges annually who has exhibited academic excellence, has completed at least 12 semester hours, and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. e 2014 – 2015 recipient for FTCC was Scarlett Burgess. e students receiving these awards have much to celebrate.
